What is Better Discord supposed to do when it works?
BD, by itself, has a few basic tweaks for the Discord UI and some emoji shit that I leave turned off. BUT, it’s a framework for easily adding other features to Discord. LIKE A FUCKING SPELLCHECK, which is an amazing plugin and I love it.
So, for future reference (and because I finally got a fix for the stupid-ass problem I was having) here’s my Better Discord in a nutshell guide.
- Go get the latest BD and unpack it into a folder.
- (Because BD isn’t installing properly right now, go grab Zerebos’s fork, and replace the executable in the unpacked folder with the Mac or Windows version as appropriate.)
- Run the executable and make sure ‘Restart Discord’ (and ‘Use Zere’s unofficial fork’, if using Zerebos’s fork) are ticked.
- ASSUMING IT INSTALLED WITH NO ERRORS, Wait for Discord to restart and give it about five minutes to finish loading, then go to Settings. You should see a Better Discord menu on the left.
- Go to Settings > Better Discord > Plugins, and hit the ‘Open Plugin Folder’ button at the top. Copy that location, ‘cause it’s where you’re going to save plugins to.
- Grab ‘Restart No More’ and save it to your plugins folder. (MAKE SURE IT SAVES AS JS, NOT AS TXT. If it saves as txt, just change the extension back to js.) Then… restart Discord.
- After a few minutes (during which you may see the BD logo flashing in the bottom right corner – wait for it to stop), go back to Settings > Better Discord > Plugins, and turn on your new plugin. This plugin enables you to add other BD plugins without restarting Discord every time. It’s a god damn lifesaver.
- Join the BD support server and go to #plugin-repo, where you can find every other BD plugin ever, and download the ones you want.
I personally use:
- Character Counter: You can only type 2000 characters in the box, before Discord won’t send the message. This will show you how many you’ve typed.
- Large Message Splitter: More than 2000 characters? This will let you split your message easily into multiple parts.
- Spellcheck: AHAHAHAHA THIS IS THE POWER WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR. SPELLCHECK IN DISCORD. And it seems to auto-detect the language you’ve selected in Discord, and pick the right spellcheck for it. - Enjoy your NEW FANCY POWERS. (And remember, if you accidentally switch on minimal mode, you can get back into settings by pressing ctrl-,)

THAT MOMENT WHEN YOURE READING FANFICTION AND A CHARACTER SAYS SOMETHING REALLY CUTE OR ANGSTY BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING THEY WOULD ACTUALLY SAY AND YOU JUST KINDA LEAVE THE COMPUTER AND WALK AIMLESSLY AROUND THE HOUSE TO CALM YOUR RAGING FEELS
me: *deletes fucking everything off my phone*
phone: your storage is almost full
When you delete things off of a mobile device (like a phone or digital camera), the file goes to your phone’s recycle bin (just like on a desktop computer or laptop), typically an invisible folder named .trashes or .trash. There, it continues to take up the same amount of memory storage as it did before you ‘deleted’ it. To empty your mobile device’s recycling bin, plug your phone into your desktop or laptop via USB as a memory device, right click on your desktop/laptop’s recycling bin/trash, and tell it to empty your recycling bin/empty trash. Your computer will empty all .trash/.trashes folders, including the one on your phone, actually deleting the files permanently this time, freeing up your phone/camera’s memory space. Reblog to save a life.
(I know this works on MAC with my Andriod, it’s not too far a stretch to do the same on Windows and/or with other phones as well. In fact, it should be easier to do on Windows since Windows Explorer is more conducive to finding hidden folders.)

How To Protect Your Eyes If You Stare At Screens All Day
If you work in front of a computer all day, Here are four easy-to-implement tips that will make a huge difference:
“I spelled it correctly,” I curse with cruelty at my spell checker.
A dictionary confirms.
I return to my computer with smugness as thick as stone and equally cold.
